Jeff Feldman to Receive Prestigious Gartland Award for Community Service – Dutchess Bar Association to Present Award at Annual Meeting
(FISHKILL, NY – February 23, 2015) – Jeff Feldman of Feldman, Kleidman, Coffey & Sappe will be honored by the Dutchess County Bar Association with the 2015 Gartland Award for Community Service. Mr. Feldman will be presented with the award at this year’s annual meeting at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel on May 7, 2015.
John J. Gartland, Jr., who established a legacy of community commitment and service, is widely recognized as one of Dutchess County’s most influential 20th-century community leaders.. The Dutchess County Bar Association annually presents the Jack Gartland Award for Community Service to a member whose dedication to making the community a better place exemplifies that legacy.
Over the years, Jeff has dedicated countless hours to numerous causes and community activities. He has been involved with the LaGrange Soccer Club since 1995, serving as president of the club for more than ten years. During his tenure, the club created a premier-level soccer program for elite players and Stringham Park, a new, fully irrigated soccer complex. In 1997, Jeff created a special needs program for children interested in learning to play soccer and expanded this program to include special needs adults in 2007. The program continues today and includes a mentoring program that has involved thousands of players who have volunteered time.
Additionally, Jeff is the cofounder of the Lagrange Challenger Bowling and Lagrange Special Needs Adult Basketball programs. He serves as a member of the Town of LaGrange Recreation Committee and was a founding board member of Arlington High School’s Parents for Good Sports. Jeff is past president of the Jewish Community Center of Dutchess County and was a member of the executive committee for twelve years. Currently, Jeff chairs the board of trustees for the Hospice Foundation, Inc., with which he has been involved since 2008.
Jeff created the Paul S. Kleidman Scholarship Fund, which provides a scholarship to a college-bound Arlington High School graduate whose life has been affected by a close family member’s life-threatening illness. He was also involved in the Howard K. Spieler Fund, which raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy gifts for underprivileged children.
Jeff is the recipient of the Besse Payne Award from Dutchess ARC, its highest honor, for his contributions to the special needs community. In 2011, Jeff received Professional Advisors Recognition by the Community Foundation of Hudson Valley for his work to advance philanthropy and encourage charitable giving. In 2012, he received recognition for Meritorious Service to Sports from the Poughkeepsie Elks Lodge #275 for his involvement in the Lagrange Challenger Sports program.
Jeff has also distinguished himself professionally. He has been selected by US News and World Report as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” for the past seven years. He has also been named a New York State “Super Lawyer” every year since 2008, and he has achieved an AV® rating with Martindale-Hubbell for the past twenty-one years, placing him in the top three percent of attorneys nationwide.
Jeff received his J.D. Magna Cum Laude from Syracuse University College of Law and was a graduate assistant at the University of Maryland School of Management. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1978, Federal Court – Southern, Eastern & Northern Districts of New York in 1980, and the bar of the US Supreme Court in 1986. He is listed in Who’s Who in American Law, Second Edition. Jeff is a member of the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, New York State Trial Lawyers Association, and NY Medial Defense Lawyers Association.
